Meet Dr. Ryan Stern

Dr. Stern has been named one of Washington’s Top 10 ENT surgeons.
Dr. Stern has been treating patients in the Pacific Northwest as a board-certified head and neck surgeon for over 20 years. Dr Stern is a Clinical Associate Professor of Surgery, serving on the surgical faculty at the University of Washington School of Medicine for over 15 years. Dr. Stern has won numerous awards along the way including being named one of Washington’s Top 10 ENT Surgeons and now 5-year running Patients Choice Award. He has been a proud partner at Surgical Associates NW since 2007.
Dr. Stern grew up in Santa Rosa, California. He earned his undergraduate degree from The Johns Hopkins University with honors. Ryan received his medical degree with honors from the New York University School of Medicine after having been awarded the Howard Hughes Medical Institute’s Medical Research Fellowship which he completed at the University of California – San Francisco School of Medicine. Ryan completed his Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgical residency at the University of Washington. He also earned his Master of Public Health degree with honors from the University of Washington.
Dr. Stern enjoys helping all types of patients and even most challenging surgical cases. He has been teaching students for over a decade at the UW. Almost every Monday he can be found training residents and providing care to our veterans at Seattle’s VA Hospital on Beacon Hill. The rest of the week is spent in South Puget Sound at Surgical Associates NW.
Ryan met his wife, Jamie, during their first year in college at Hopkins and they were married a few years later. Their oldest daughter Ilana graduated from Garfield High School in Seattle in 2021 before starting college on the East Coast. Their son was born in 2009 , now a crazy middle schooler. Miriam the “miracle” is their youngest daughter , and was born in 2016. When he is not working, teaching, or chasing his children, Dr. Stern can usually be found shredding the ski slopes, playing softball, squeezing in some poker games, or catching up on major league baseball.
